Professor W's Earth Science Circus

Sponsored by the Fair Lawn Recycling Division through the NJ Clean Communities Program

We learned about the Earth's atmosphere.

It's like a giant bubble around the earth.

Meatloaf and Professor W explained a closed eco-system.

Audience participation to explain H2O and CO2 was encouraged.

Learning is much more fun with a song!

"Super Custodian" taught us about being custodians of the earth.

We had all the answers,

and really enjoyed the show!

+++

Annual bagel breakfast for grades 3 through 6 sponsored by the Student Council

Service with a smile!

Can there be anything better than a bagel with your buddies?

Student Council's mission is to serve, even orange juice.

When Mom is in the kitchen, all's right with the world!  Thank you , Mrs. Crawford and Mrs. Czochanski, for pitching in.

We played some games, too, like T-U-R-K-E-Y (the Thanksgiving version of B-I-N-G-O).

Thank you, Student Council!

Nursing students from Bergen Community College, under the direction of Mrs. Melissa Salort, visit the Kindergarten to teach us how to wash our hands correctly.

Nurse Renee uses some magic lotion to show where the germs are on our unwashed hands.

Then Nurse Denise uses a special light to highlight where the germs are.

Nurse Carol reminds us to always use soap and water, and to scrub our hands well.

Thank you, for teaching us how to prevent the spread of germs!

The Gift of Christmas

Annual school concert - December 15, 2009

The excitement builds as 7:00 p.m. approaches.

But the music will be worth the wait!

Pre-Kindergarten-4 opens with a cute number about Santa.

Then grades Kindergarten to five entertained us.

Fr. Joe acknowledged Kindergartener Natalie for winning a contest by submitting a drawing of the Nativity to our bulletin publishing company.  Natalie's first-prize picture will be printed on the covers of bulletins in parishes throughout northern Bergen County this Christmas.

Then the show continued!

The 12 Days of Christmas presented a challenge: where do you get 2 extra fingers?

Our Select Choir of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders sang in 3-part harmony.

We ended with a serenade to Baby Jesus: Silent Night.

+++

Barnes & Noble Book Fair story time

Mr. Puntasecca thrills the audience with his stirring rendition of a Christmas story.

+++

Our first grade reminds us of the reason for the season.

Waiting to begin

Sophia read the first reading and Jordan led us in the responsorial psalm.

Giovanni sent our petitions to the Lord in the prayer of the faithful.

Mary and Joseph could find no room at the inn, but a local man gave them the shelter of the stable.

Mary and Joseph await the arrival of the Baby Jesus.

And he does not disappoint!

"Behold! I bring you tidings of great joy!"  "Let us go and see this thing that the Lord has made known to us."

We three kings of orient are...

They opened their treasures and offered him gifts of

gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Sleep in heavenly peace.  Sleep in heavenly peace.

+++

Santa makes a quick visit!

Santa surprised Thomas in the hallway.

and had time for a quick photo with the seventh grade.

Three Kings Day in Kindergarten B

Today, everybody is a King (or at least a princess)

and we've got the crowns to prove it!

If you were a King, what gift would you give the Baby Jesus?

A warm quilt, some food, the world, my heart, a yo-yo.

Then we went to church to see the Kings in the manger.

Shh!  Baby Jesus is sleeping.

+++

Homeroom 3A extends their reading story "How My Parents Learned to Eat" by Ina. R. Friedman by learning how to use chopsticks to eat some "sushi".

It was fun!

Make your own sundae thanks to our PTG

What toppings do you want on your ice cream?

+++

Budding scientists

Sixth grade science students dissected owl pellets in class to understand how energy is transferred from one organism to another. We have been studying food chains, food webs, and energy transfer.  Some students found a bird, mole, or rodent skeleton along with hair and feathers inside the owl pellet!

Breaking open the pellet

It's starting to reveal it's secrets.

Skeletal remains of the owl's latest meal.

We also dissected the parts of a lily to find the reproductive organs.

Very interesting!
