During the
first week of March, we will administer our annual TerraNova
standardized tests to students in grades one through seven. All
students should have a few sharpened #2 pencils with clean
erasers available everyday. A basic calculator will also be
used by some students. Students should get ample sleep and eat
a nutritious breakfast. All students should be in school ON
TIME because testing sessions begin with first period. Late
students disturb the quiet setting once testing has begun, and
are late in beginning these timed tests.
Our eighth
grade will host a Family Fun Night at the Friendly’s in Elmwood
Park on Tuesday, March 9, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Thanks for
your support.

Our annual St. Patrick’s Day
parade will step off on March 12 at 1:00 p.m. Students may
dress out of uniform (preferably in green clothing) that day.
Because most homerooms will enjoy a party after the parade,
there will not be a bake sale during lunch that day. Students
in grades K-3 may create a hat with an Irish theme for the hat
contest. You gotta be in it to win it!
Our second
trimester ends on March 12. Report cards will be distributed at
the next general meeting of the PTG on Tuesday, March 23, at
7:30 PM in the school cafeteria.
Our teachers
will attend a Lenten retreat on March 19. School will be closed
that day.
The final
mass and service project for this year will be on Sunday, March
21, and will involve grades seven and eight. After the 9:00 AM
mass, students and their families will gather in the church hall
to perform a service activity to benefit a local animal shelter.
Our sixth
graders will graduate from their DARE program on Wednesday,
March 24, at 1:15 PM in the gym. Parents are encouraged and
invited to attend.
During this
Lenten season, our students have had the opportunity to pray the
devotion known as the Stations of the Cross, a series of
fourteen “snap shots” of Jesus’ journey to his death on
Calvary. Students in grades three through eight will also have
the opportunity to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation this
month. Our eighth graders will be treated to a performance of
the Passion Play at the Park Theater in Union City on March 25
thanks to the generosity of our PTG. Ask you children about
these prayer experiences and what they have learned from them.
Holy Week,
the most solemn week of the liturgical year, begins with Palm
Sunday on March 28. We will celebrate mass together on March 31
at 8:45 AM, and dismissal that day will be at 12:15 PM as we
begin our Easter recess. The Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good
Friday, and Holy Saturday round out the week with many
opportunities for prayer and reflection on the events that won
our salvation for us. Don’t miss out!
Classes
resume on Monday, April 12.
